Cosy Autumn Fun for Local Families at the Vassall Hub

The Vassall Hub Autumn Family Event brought together local families for a warm, creative evening that turned even the rainiest weather into something special.

Unlike the Hub’s larger seasonal fairs, this was a smaller, family-focused gathering, designed to give parents, carers, and children a chance to spend time together, get creative, and enjoy some autumn fun in a relaxed setting.

The craft room was buzzing with imagination – children made colourful autumn headbands with pipe cleaners, crafted glowing lanterns, and filled the tables with autumn-themed colouring and creativity.

In the storytelling space, families gathered to enjoy a wonderful mix of tales – with plenty of spider-themed stories – and even got hands-on making their own shadow puppets to use in a mini puppet theatre.

Over in the youth room, Learning Partnership West (LPW) teamed up with Life Church, who came along to showcase the youth sessions they run at the Hub on Monday and Friday evenings. The room was full of energy, games, and laughter – giving young people a taste of what’s available throughout the year.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came from Soroush, one of the Hub’s fantastic volunteers, who wrote and performed a brand-new song especially for the event – a big hit with our youngest guests 🎶

Even staff and volunteers couldn’t resist joining in, with plenty of face painting and crafts enjoyed by grown-ups and little ones alike. Families also answered fun questions about their community and got the chance to win prizes in a lucky dip.

One parent summed up the atmosphere perfectly:

“Thank you for a really lovely evening. [My child] found it really hard to start with, then absolutely loved it, and seeing that older kid's room was magic. You’ve worked so hard on it all, and it was amazing. Thank you. The storyteller was superb!”

Despite the grey skies outside, the event managed to feel cosy, welcoming, and full of community spirit. It was wonderful to see families connecting, creating, and enjoying time together at the Hub

A huge thank you to all our amazing volunteers and partners who made it happen – and especially to everyone who braved the weather to join us!
