Women in the local community have two new opportunities to get moving as new dance sessions start at the Vassall Community Hub.
Created by local women and supported through the Hub’s Grassroots Grants programme, the classes are designed to be relaxed, welcoming, and open to women looking for a fun way to stay active and connect with others.

Bringing the evening energy is Kinetic Femme Women’s Dance, running on the first Tuesday of every month from 7:45pm to 8:45pm. The format is refreshingly simple: one hour of freestyle movement set to drum & bass, house, and other dance music.
No choreography. No pressure. Just music and movement.
Josie Standbrook, who runs Kinetic Femme, explains the inspiration behind the sessions:
“I’ve enjoyed electronic music since I was a teenager. Now I’m 42, I still want to let loose like I’m at a rave but without committing to a late night. I’m hoping that holding Kinetic Femme at a civilised time on a weekday will make it accessible to all women who love dancing to a good beat. If we can raise a bit of money for a fantastic charity at the same time, even better.” She describes the atmosphere as: “No booze. No boys. No bright lights. No judgment.”
The first class is free, with sessions priced at £5 thereafter. All profits will be donated to Womankind Bristol, a long-established mental health charity run by women, for women. The organisation supports hundreds of women each year, helping improve mental health and wellbeing so women can experience a better quality of life.

Joining the daytime timetable is Bollywood Dance For Women, running monthly on Fridays 11:30-12:30. The class offers a lively, accessible session inspired by Bollywood dance - a chance to move, have fun, and try something a little different.
Organiser Rajni Kaur said “I've always had a passion for Bollywood dance since I was very young and always wanted to be part of something special, teaching Bollywood dance is my dream job and encouraging others and inspiring them through movement is so exciting and rewarding! That's why I've started to teach now and am enjoying all elements of it!”
Importantly, the sessions are open to all women, regardless of experience or fitness level. Both initiatives reflect the continued impact of the Hub’s Grassroots Grants programme, which supports resident-led ideas that strengthen connection and wellbeing in the local area.
Jess Garbett, Community Engagement Manager at the Hub, welcomed the new additions:
“It’s great to see local women bringing ideas that create friendly, inclusive spaces. The Grassroots Grants programme is all about supporting activities that bring people together, and these classes are a brilliant example of that.”
